What does medical marijuana treat?

Current research suggests medicinal cannabis may alleviate symptoms across a variety of conditions.

The Australian Government Department of Health and the NSW, Victorian and Queensland state governments commissioned a team which reviewed clinical evidence for using medicinal cannabis. The following is a list of the five areas for which the largest numbers of studies have been carried out:

  1. palliative care,
  2. chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting,
  3. chronic pain,
  4. multiple sclerosis and
  5. epilepsy in paediatric and adult patients.

There are no restrictions imposed by the TGA on the indication/s for which a health practitioner may apply to access medicinal cannabis for their patient.
